Hi,Just a few questions:
1. My plants are flowering right now and all the flowers are female. I
see male flowers comming along, but it looks like they are out of synch
and will arrive after these females die off. Should I just be patient?
No problem, be patient, they will flower for a long time. Usually the male flowers will come first though.
2. If I want to remove these female flowers and fruit, what's the best--------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing FAQ: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/search.cgi To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@mallorn.com with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS
way to do it? I don't want to stress the plants or introduce
infection...
Most just use a clean knife. It is recommended that you clean the knife with a 50 /50% water bleach solution.
3. If the male and female flowers remain out of sync, can I save the
pollen from the males for any period of time? If so, what's the best
storgae method? Not sure on this one. 24 hrs ?4. I've been fertilizing with miracle grow and steer manure soup.
Should I start changing to a different fertilizer? Vines are about 8
feet long at this point...
A balanced fertilizer like 15-15-15 or 20-20-20 would be ok. A few weeks after fruit set, you should apply something that is higher in potassium. ( Indicated by the letter "K" on the fertilizer bag ) Peters makes one that is 15-11-29.
Thanks for any help and feedback!keith
