If pollination is successful, the female's bulge will stay shiney in the
days following pollination- it's growing in size, and shedding any dust and
dirt falling on it daily. It'll also look bigger. :-) If the pollination
didn't "take", the female will get a dull in luster in a couple days,
perhaps turning whitish (from the ordinary yellow).
