Re: Which kin?

Bernie,

Let them both grow if they both look viable.  Believe it or not, at this point it is hard to tell.  I usually let many pumpkins grow and then cut them off when they are about 50 to 80lbs.  9 - 10 feet out on the main vine, it doesn't matter. As the pumpkins get bigger, you will be able to judge which one is growing better.  All this comes from experience and some instinct.  Be patient, let them both grow for now.

Subject: Which kin?

Hi,

Newbie here. Set a pumpkin~ 9'-10' out on a main on June 29th. Pumpkin is growing nicely, now between a softball & volleyball in size. On same main set another pumpkin ~ 12' out on July 9th. Is the fact that the first kin was set a week & a half earlier have much impact in terms of growing season or final weight? Or is it better to wait & see which kin seems to be growing faster? Does it matter how far out on the main the pumpkin is, i.e. 9' or 12'?  Thanks!
