Re: Which kin?

The best thing to do is measure & compare growth rates. But there are still other factors, for example I've got a fruit set 6' out on a deadheaded secondary that is 16" in circumference at day 5. And I've got a fruit set  15' out on the main  that measures 11" in circumference also at day 5.
I've had to have friends convince me to ride out the main vine one even though its growing slower. I kinda know this, but it's fun to watch just how fast the other one is growing.
What I'm getting at is ride'em both for awhile, keep growth records, & pray before you make the cull....................Paul

Subject: Which kin?

Hi,

Newbie here. Set a pumpkin~ 9'-10' out on a main on June 29th. Pumpkin is growing nicely, now between a softball & volleyball in size. On same main set another pumpkin ~ 12' out on July 9th. Is the fact that the first kin was set a week & a half earlier have much impact in terms of growing season or final weight? Or is it better to wait & see which kin seems to be growing faster? Does it matter how far out on the main the pumpkin is, i.e. 9' or 12'?  Thanks!
