Re: cracked vine

The crack doesn't sound good, what you did (bury it) is okay, but no guarantee.  If you set a pumpkin now that is close to the crack, down the road (as the pumpkin grows and lifts the vine up (sometimes over a foot or more) it could pull itself off the vine or break at the old 'crack' line.  It might be best to try and set a pumpkin further down the main vine, and also set the pumkins on the secondaries, you never know the secondary can grow as big a pumpkin as the primary.

Subject: cracked vine

hi list. I went out to the patch to water my pumpkin today and noticed that my main vine has a crack in it. it looks likes it twisted from the wind and cracked. I covered it up with dirt. has this happened to anyone before? It also looks like a female flower is developing about a foot after the crack. What do you guys think. There is also a side vine coming off the back of the plant.
