Re: regarding mail list-how many years?

Dale,

I have interspersed my answers with your questions below:

You will often see these denominators also followed by a year indicator.
The first # refers to how much money the grower spent, the name refers to
the grower, and the final # is the year. For instance 723 Bobier 01 means
that Bobier spent $723 on water bills, fertilizer, etc. in 2001.

> 2. What is meant by "set" the fruit?

The terminology "set the fruit" comes from the North American Indian
practice of warming the fruit with one's own body heat. While the
terminology is derived from that ancient practice, the grower isn't really
doing that today. Today it means that they gently dig soil out from
underneath the pumpkin so that as it grows the vine isn't lifted off the
ground so that the stem breaks off.

You could do what Geneva Emmons did and build a little air conditioned unit
for your pumpkins. But that would drive up your electric bills/expense
ratio and thus drive up that first # of your denominator as indicated in
question 1. Next season they would be saying of you, "Did you see that
1375 Fisher 02." You wouldn't want that!

> 4. How long will they grow?

I had to self-censor my answer to this one.

I have a new book coming out that I hope you will read. It should be
available through Amazon in a few months. "How I grew pumpkins on $48 a
day.

> Thanks all for any response, I appreciate it.

Glad I could be of help. Feel free to ask again.

Kevin

p.s. I hope you have a good sense of humor.
