Does anyone put anything under their pumpkins like straw or something to
prevent them from rotting, or to help them lift them out of the garden
when they get huge?
Some growers use sand. Others use pieces of styrofoam.
Straw sounds like a good idea... or would it hold
moisture. I was going to try sand this year.

If all goes fairly well, what would be the possible expectation for the
weight of a pumpkin, that is now volleyball sized, after only an
additional 30 days on the vine?  I was thinking I'd like to get a couple
hundred pounder for one of our local fairs which runs in mid August.
That is quite possible, like you say, if everything goes
well. Cull one for your fair, and set some others to grow
full term.
