Barbara,
Using a Have-a-heart or similar device, capture one of those critters
called homo sapiens. Release it if it turns out to be a female,
protected under the Dangered Species Act. Keep him caged until after
dark, then turn him loose in the patch. For best results, feed him beer
while he's still in captivity. This will eliminate the need for those
unsightly little jars.
Better yet, keep him with you for some 20 years or so, always
remembering the beer trick, and he will almost automatically do
something biologists refer to as marking his territory.
