Re: Numbers and time

Looking over the growth numbers for Larry and Gerry's two big
ones a few years ago, there is one thing that stands out about
their growth rate. Early on, when the fruit were at about 20
days, they really took off. Growth of 14" average a day in
total OTT, sustained for over a week. This means circumferance
gains of 6" to 7" every day for a week.

This growth spurt put them both over 400 pounds by day 30.
Both pumpkins then sustained a good growth rate until the 1190
split and the other broke the world record at 1131.

Last year my pumpkin, Beowulf (831 Zunino), was ahead of the
1190 at 20 days but was quickly left in the dust by day 30. My
conclusion is - if it really wants to be big it should express
it's desire before day 30 with some extraordinary growth and
then sustain a solid growth rate for the rest of the season.

I would look for at least 110" to 115" circ on day thirty in
our warmer California climate to have a shot at the big time.

Having never grown a half tonner, you can weigh the value of
this conclusion but if it isn't really big by day thirty it's
gonna be really hard to get there.

If you'ld like a copy of Larry and Gerry's numbers send me your
fax number.
