Powdery Mildew

Here's a tip for newbies and procrastinators. You newbies thought you got through the borer wars and now you can sit back and relax, eh? Not so fast.

Here in Virginia, and I suspect in most other areas too, it is almost time for powdery mildew. Once it starts, it's very difficult to stop. Stopping it before it starts is your best bet. So get out the Daconil. As Dale Mellott so sagely pointed out to me, Daconil, whether it's on your shelf or a retailer's, settles much more than many insecticides, so shake it like crazy. Then mix it up and get spraying.

Other years I've had August 5th on my calendar to start preventive spraying, but each time a few little spots showed up before I sprayed. I just did my first 2002 app today.

BTW... Rootshield claims it can be used to prevent powdery mildew. Has anyone here used it that way? What did you think?

Beth
