RE: fertilisers LIST plus mixing

The fertilizers you mentioned are for use with phosphoric acid, that's why
the middle numbers are so low, they were developed to be used in conjunction
with the acid; if you are not using phosphoric acid, you'd be better using a
general water soluble fertilizer. When you say "fruit boosting fertilizer"
are you meaning to get fruit or are you looking for something after fruit is
already set & growing? If you are looking for calcium, you can use calcium
nitrate; my general fert this year is Plantex Soilless Mix 15-15-18 with
micro-nutrients. I can add calcium nitrate, MG, Maxicrop, etc.

Scotts/MG also makes the following:
10-0-0 Mag-Nitrate
14-5-38 K-CEL
15-0-0 Cal-lite
15-5-15 Cal-Mag
21-5-20 All Purpose

Plantex varieties:
12-2-14 Cal-Mag
12-0-44 Potassium Nitrate plus Minors
15-0-15 Cal-Pot Special (for low-light conditions)
15-15-30 PotPlant Special
24-10-20 Drip Irrigation
24-8-16 Foliage Fertilizer
15-30-15 High Phosphate Special
And about 5-10 other blends

Peters Professional:
10-30-20 Blossom Booster
15-0-15 Dark Weather Special
5-10-30 Pot Mum Special
15-16-17 Peat-Lite Special
20-10-20 Peat-Lite Special
27-15-12 Foliar Feed
20-5-30 Potash Special
20-10-20 General Purpose
20-20-20 General Purpose

I thought you should use a high P at transplanting for roots, high N for
vining, a balanced fert thru fruit set plus occasionally high K for cell
wall development?

Also, when you add ferts together, don't you average instead of add NPK #'s?
If you add 10-0-0 plus 0-0-10, do you get 10-0-10 or 5-0-5? Or, if you add
15-0-0 Calcium Nitrate to 15-30-15 MG, do you get 30-30-15 or 15-15-7.5?
Isn't the NPK a percentage per pound?

Mark

Subject: fertilisers

ok,

i need to order my fruit boosting fertiliser soon (this week) and want to
ask you opinion.

I am watering with river/stream water.

do i go for Scotts Universol 9 - 9 - 27 +3Mgo

or

Scotts Peters Excel 13 - 5 - 20 +7Ca0 +2MgO +TE

or maybe something else you would recommend.

the reason i ask is because of all the discussions of calcium boosting fruit
weight etc - so that is why i was thinking about the peters excel, or maybe
i can mix something in with the other brand?

thanks in advance for your help.

Chris
