Hi Sue,
Your biggest pumpkin is only 4 days old - it's a little early
to tell really much at all. Let them all get to 10 days and
start measuring them and comparing size, and growth rates. You
usually are not sure until ten days have passed that the
pumpkin has "set" and will continue to grow.
If your pumpkins measure close to 20" circ at ten days, you are
off to a great start.
While the vine is still young and supple, now is the time to
try positioning it so you will not develop stem stress on the
pumpkin later. Try to very carefully and gently give it a
shallow V or U shape with the pumpkin growing from the outside
bottom of the V. Use great care not to snap the vine.
Give special attention to the fruit growing on the main vine.
Most of the really big one's come from the primary main.
