4-Segment or 5-Segment?

List:

Unfortunately, I have only been able to pollinate on secondary vines this
year.
Currently I have a pumpkin pollinated on two different secondary vines, both
of
which are growing off the SAME primary vine. The first, pollinated 8 days
ago had
a 4-segment flower. The second, pollinated 4 days ago was a 5-segment.

Normally I would keep the 5 and cull the 4, however the 5-segment is growing
slower (It is smaller than the 4 was after its first 4 days from
pollination. I have
a couple questions:

Is the slower growth of the 5-segment occurring because most of the plant's
energy
is going to the first one (closer to the stump)? If I cull the 4-segment,
would the 5
get a boost of growth because there are no other pumkins preceding it?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
