RE: Potted too long ......help

Alex

You're about 2.75 months late getting it in the ground. I don't want to
discourage you too much, but the truth of the matter is that I wouldn't
expect to have anything materialize. I was 5 weeks late getting my
plants in the ground this year (beginning of June) for the same basic
reason as you, and I am wondering if I will have fruit on 7 of my 8
plants.  I likely will, but they may not mature in time for weighing in;
we'll see. If you still want to get pumpkins, I would look for a fast
maturing variety on the internet (Spooktacular is a variety that is
supposed to be ripe in only 85 days), and start some seeds this week.
Some varieties would be mature by the end of October, if you have the
heat that late in the year (or a big plastic hoop house), or you can
harvest them earlier, and sacrifice the seeds since they might not
mature in time. Either way, if you have the space in your garden, it
can't hurt to try nurturing your root bound plant, and see if you can
still grow an AG, right?

Next year, you and I will both be ready to plant on May 1st! :-D
