Hi. I'm from Victoria BC Canada attempting to grow some giant pumpkins. I would like to know, although, many suggest at least 10 feet from main root system, I did pollinate one fruit approx. 3 feet from plant on 3 plants...as a precautionary measure should not female fruit develop on plant, and just to see how things grow...
At some point with other fruit growing approx 10 feet along vine from main root system, I cut off the larger pumpking closer to the main plant, can this plant be harvested? Take the seeds out prepare them for next year? Make pumpkin pie from the pulp inside, are these pumpkins mature enough? It would seem such a waste if they can't be used for anything other than obtaining seeds.
I read also that pumpkin pies from giant pumpkins is rather coarse compared to the smaller pumpkins. What kind of ingredient could be added to make the giant pumpkin pulp smoother such as the smaller pumpkin varities? Has anybody made pumpkin wine from the pulp?
Thanks for your responses.
Philip
