David,
Could you please post (again) for us newbies how to determine the OTT and estimated weight? I'd like to be able to report how I'm doing with the seeds you gave me.
Thanks,
Ron

Howdy Pumpkin Growers!
We are now into the decision month! Which one, Which one? People have
asked for more info on how some people grow them...here is how I handle this
activity...
Once I choose the "one"...I create a "tarp tent" around it on top is a 6x8
tarp...takes about 6 - 6 1/2 ft posts to attach all the tarps to. (and 3-4
side tarps)
However, the key is vine positioning with the pumpkin...once I decide on
the pumpkin...I cut secondaries 3-4 feet before AND after it....put milk jugs
w/H2O under the main vines for support and also....gulp...move the main vine
(AFTER) the pumpkin so that it almost a 90 degree angle(yes, more secondaries
will need to be cut that are pointed back into the plant)...that way when the
pumpkin gets bigger it is not pushing on the Main Vine.
This takes some getting used to doing, but I have found it the best way to
minimize stem stress on the pumpkin..which is the best way to "kink" or rip the
stem and thus end your season with a smaller pumpkin.
Anyways, hope this tip helps! As for the Status of my patch...the top 6...
#1 - 501.5 Beachy #2- Day 22 - 85,54,54 = 193 OTT = 162 lbs
#2 - 1420.5 La Rue - Day 22 - 76,51,52 = 179 OTT = 132 lbs
#3 - 670 Daigle - Day 20 - 73,51,50 = 174 OTT = 122 lbs
#4 - 781.5 Frantz #1 - Day 20 - 77,50,43 = 170 OTT = 114 lbs
#5 - 648 Bhaskaran Day 19 - 73,48,47 = 168 OTT = 111 lbs
#6 - 781.5 Frantz #2 Day 19 - 63, 44,41= 148 OTT = 079lbs <<< Not
good>>>
Side Notes:
501.5 Beachy #1 on day 10 was 30.5" inches....culled off a bigger one ahead
of it for this one.
578 Bhaskaran day 16" is 35" inches...not good...but up 4.5".
802 Bhaskaran day 17" is 50" inches....better....but not on record pace.
529 Brinkley - not doing well on setting a pumpkin!
