Welcome.
I would say it's a good idea to back away from fertilizer during pollination time. Too much nitrogen can cause the aborts. Another factor that causes a lot of aborts is high heat. If your temps are above 90, then that is also a contributing factor to your problem.
Actually, it is a good idea to stock your soil in the fall with organic matter...aged manure, peat moss, winter rye. Then the spring and early summer, very little fertilizer is needed. After the fruits are set the plants will require more 'juice' and you can start applying the fertilizer in a steady dose...
