A bunch of questions
Well, this is rather lengthy, but here goes anyhow. I dont expect full
answers from anyone, but perhaps I can piece a full answer together. Thanks
in advance.
First, yesterday I noticed a few leaves (only 2-3) with some white fungus
like you would see on food in a fridge. I assume powdery mildew. I sprayed
today tops/bottoms of leaves, stems, etc. with Folpet.
Question 1
a. Is this adequate?
b. Should I spray something else as well?
c. How long after I spray can I wash from overhead without negating the
fungicide?
d. Since I caught it early, this should be controllable right?
e. Was spraying this a problem, as I set one fruit today, and all others
were set in the last 5 days?
Secondly, I finally have some set fruit (9 to be exact). I haven't had them
for 10 days yet, but as of yet, they are all looking good (knock on wood).
At this point I think I want to cut all other males/females of since I no
longer need to pollinate.
Question 2
a. Will cutting all flowers off help recover from mildew because I am
cutting off things that require energy, or will cutting everything off
cause to much stress and make it more succeptible? I only took off one
quarter so far. Should I remove the rest?
b. I sprayed (folpet, above application) prior to pinching of buds and
tertiaries, will this be sufficient to cover "open wounds" from disease?
Question 3
Should I cover new fruit from the sun right off the bat? If not, when should
I start (I have been to protect from rain, but if sun is out, I close them
to maximize exposure to the sun)?
Question 4
I haven't finished all irrigation, but is it safe to say that if the leaves
are not wilting, means you are provinding adequate water? I have 100 1GPH
emitters running for 1 hour a day (4 separate times). The patch is roughly
550 square feet. The only issue is that all water may not directly go to
each node, but alot of it is. The rest, is still within the confines of the
patch (which is under 100% leaf coverage?). Will the vines pick up all of
this water. I plan to expand on the irrigation to end with somewhere around
250GPH. I read some posts saying guys have fed 1000G a day into the plant, I
think this is a little bit of an exaggeration. Any light to shed on that?
