RE: General Question

Jordan,

Thorough spray coverage is always important but especially so with a contact
insecticide like Sevin. Sevin works only where it is placed.

You are correct that specific situations can call for a different approach.
Systemic insecticides like Imidacloprid are best applied to the soil where
the plants roots absorb & translocate the material. Systemic fungicides vary
in how well & to what part(s) of the plant they translocate.
Heritage/Quadris is very good at moving through a leaf but doesn't move down
to the crown. Another example is the fungicide Chlorothalonil (Bravo,
Daconil, etc) which is a contact (like Sevin). It must be applied to the
part of the plant you are trying to protect such as leaf bottoms for Powdery
Mildew.

It's sort of like screws & nails. Each has a specific application & a much
different means of application despite the fact they are both fasteners.

Subject: General Question

When it comes to applying sprays, is a foliar application enough, or should

I coat every part thoroughly. I suppose it may depend on the situation. For

sevin, should I apply to all parts of plant (to kill SVB eggs) or just

overhead?

Thanks
