rough year!

rough year for the giants here ...

started off with a big hit by the cucumber beetles, thought i might 
lose everything.  my best plant looked like it was going to die for sure, but it came back, which totally surprised me.

some plants came back really well and were doing beautifully, but when we went on vacation, our neighbor/caretaker thought he was 'helping' by trying to re-route them and ended up twisting the vines a lot.

THEN we got hit with a hail storm --- we never get hail in this area, at least nothing bigger than tiny ice flakes ---
but this time, we got chunks of ice the size of gravel / small rocks.

guess which plant was hit the hardest?  my best plant, of course.
the leaves are full of tears from the hail.

the plant still looks as healthy as can be expected, and it's starting to fruit at last, but i'm not getting my hopes up for anything really spectacular.
