OK- so is there any special way to cull non wanted fruits? Do I just pull it
off or do I need to cut at a certain point? And How soon do I cull?
Also, do I remove any damaged leaves or is all surface area that is viable
on a partly damaged leaf meant to remain on the plant? I am unsure if a
plant dedicates any energy to healing before meeting energy needs. I still
can not believe I have such small leaves on my plant with the biggest fruit.
I wonder if placing the pine tree stump made a difference? I know it has a
low ph and I purposely placed it on the vine that I did not want to promote
growth and the vine has started to wrap around it, no more growth has been
noticed on that vine and I am hoping it will provide nice support. I placed
long white birch logs along side the vine I want to grow and it continued to
grow and wrap around- this is the vine that has the big fruit. I bet the
pine stump may have stunted the vegetative growth.
Is there any one on this listserve from the New York State Giant Pumpkin
Growers Association? That is the one I joined and am hoping there is someone
relatively close to Fillmore NY in Allegany County that has experience
growing the giants. Please let me know
