Pumpkin shelters

We used to construct the sheet shrine to shelter our pumpkins. Then we met Verne B and saw that he comforts his fruits with comforters and does not use a "builded" structure at all.
Since then we have gone back and forth on the subject of sheltering the pumpkin as it grows. 

Is there a best way to do this?
What if I use a chaise longue cover made of the 100 percent cotton fabric called Endura? Will it shelter my pumpkin effectively? Or will it cook it down?
