Same here Leigh! Wet, Cool, Wet, Cool. I'm running out of fungicide this
year. I am supposed to be out spraying today but it is pouring rain and
soggy again. In your case it sounds like all the H2O is leaching any
nutrients below the roots. I pumped up my fertilizers to my Ags thinking the
extremely wet weather would do just that. Of course I had to overdo it. I
did a soil test and overnitrated my babys. I cut back and they greened up.
Got fruit set on a couple of 22+ foot vines. I had a real winner going and
then the Pumpkin God sent straitline winds that blew the Hell out of them.
Lost the best vines! Now I do a soil test on what is left and I am at low N
because of all the darn water. It is like musical nutrients here. I think I
can take a couple to the finish line but I expect mediocracy (200-225lbs).
By the way, can anyone tell me why zuccini survives hurricane force winds,
can root in asphalt, grows to 30lbs......and tastes like a really bland
apple without the sugar? The chickens love it though.
One positive, I have not seen one cuke beatle or squash bug this year! Not
ONE. I saw only one SVB and my little boy got him with the shovel.

I'm in northeast PA. I still don't have a female flower, and my longest
vine is only about 8 feet. It's been nothing but wet and cold this year.
It's just now starting to warm up to the occasional low 80's.
I saw a pic posted by Organic Gardening magazine of a sad little pepper
plant they're trying to coax along in PA (most of my peppers haven't even
flowered yet). I don't feel so bad now knowing that even the experts can't
outwit crappy weather.

I'm sorry to hear that so many of you are having a terrible pumpkin year.
What states are you folks in?
I'm a first-timer pumpkin grower in California and of my two vines, one is a
mutant and the other is gowing hog-wild. This weekend I will be
cutting
off the smaller pumpkins and selecting "the one". I'm noticing that the
ends of my vines are a little yellow lately, although the rest of the vines
look pretty good. Anyone know what causes that? I know that yellow usually
means too much water, but I have been monitoring that pretty closely.
Any help is appreciated.
