I lost 29 plus some chickens to random predators this season alone- I walked
into my most secure coop to come across 13 carcass's of my keets and hens-
not even eaten, just savagely killed. Those that are smart enough to walk
into the live trap get released miles away on state land- despite it being
against the law to do so. The animal that came back the next night, as I sat
out and watched was a coon that actually lifted the roof panel and went back
in to where it thought ther birds were. Three ended up being racoons, the
fox that swiiped a bunch of my leghorns, right in front of me- must have
been rabid, still eludes me- like humility- and I have not caught the coyotes
I hear at night. I did catch and release one skunk, one rat, one woodchuck.
Here is the best part- I broke New York State law by releasing with out
permission because what I thought was state land- hence I am part owner- is
really owned by forest management and any release must first be approved by
the real land owner. NYS also does not allow for citizens to transport live
animals and if that animal is a common rabies vector- they demand you kill
it and if they find anyone releasing a fox, coon, rat etc, they are fined.
First I would like anyone who may have been offended by an coon killing
comment- to first stomach the scene of not just dead birds, but of birds
with names that commited acts of altruism- now dead and not even a dignified
death as every animal that dies does so with a pure heart wether or not any
human is offended, they have yet to pass with a pure heart- Steve I am sure
you said nothing as offensive as the sight I had to deal with.
In a land where we have been so inclined to accepting minor moral
infractions over time to become such a dpraved society- taking out a coon is
nothing compared to the vulgarness of everyday TV such as Sex in the City or
even better- three and a hlf me- now thats offensive.
Keep growing them as big as you can get em"
