The only thing raccoons love more than sunflower seed is CORN!!! Knock down a
stalk, take ONE bite out of an ear, repeat all night long or until full. This
is just one reason farmers hire people with dogs to hunt the varmints down or
employ sundry other methods to end their lives. And yes, I've read possums
and raccoons make tasty eating if one knows how to prepare the meat. Maybe
some day before I am reduced to eating blended food. Steve M.

Hi Everybody,
Rolled a couple of mine over for better position, luckily no stem snapping
problems yet. More of the SVB vine death problem though. I guess I sprayed
too
late but I still keep hoping they'll come back.
I did have the perfect imprint of a 'possum bite on one of the big ones, and
a
Racoon scrape on one of the other big ones out back. Not a real problem yet
but I do have a no-kill trap in case relocation is necessary. Otherwise my
better half's Grandmother (past on last year at the ripe old age of 100, God
rest her soul) passed down a good racoon and possum recipe. I did remember
her
saying that 'Possum was a little greasy though. She's also got a good recipe
for Groundhog in case anybody's interested.
I've got to check the huntin' season on all those. I suspect I'm outta luck
unless I want a fine (or a possible divorce.) I could stand the fine, but
divorce I'm not to keen on.
Actually- just kidding about the hunting part (not the divorce part) but
Grams
did pass the recipes down for future generations.
It seems the Racoons have been busy trying to get the birdseed out of the
feeder- an unintended distraction away from the AG's. I might have to use
this
method more to my advantage.
I DO need to get some tarps over mine. I've been working out of town and
haven't got them placed yet. The weather's been unseasonably cool in St.
Louis
so I've been lucky but August may shape up to be a little warmer??
Thanks everybody for all the good tips for us newbies,
Rich Briggs in St. Louis
