Re: watering

I like that idea but I mounded when I transplanted. I'm not sure about running a hose for several hours since I have 3 plants. A couple of years ago I left the side faucet on and damn near flooded the downstairs basement. I have since had the crack professionally sealed but am a bit nervous. Do you move the bucket or leave it in one place? If you leave it in one place, then what do you do to water the rest of the plant? Do you use a water timer?

I'm still stuck about burying the nodes. I am growing over grass for 2 pumpkins (ok, go ahead and moan everyone!). My strategy is placing soil on top of the grass for all vines to lay on. I am hand trimming any grass that comes up where I don't want it. Then I am just basically putting a partial shovelful of soil on the nodes. It then washes away when I water the vines since it is loose soil. Should I be packing it down around the nodes?

As for the SVB's, I have trapped 43 to date. Steve, are you in Indiana?

Debbie

I take a 5-gallon bucket and drill several holes in the bottom. I put the
bucket near the base and fill it with compost tea and water. I then let the
hose run slowly in the bucket for hours. Kind of a "Hoosier Drip System".

I was reading on BP about watering and how much water to use. As I
mentioned, I water using a hand wand attached to a garden hose. Based on
what I was reading, I should be putting down alot more water than I am.
What is the proper way to water to insure a good watering? (that will not
remove most of the soils I used to cover nodes)

I was reading about drip irrigation, but that is not possible for me.
Automatic misters or sprayers are also not an option at this time.
