Thanks Dave! Hot and sunny won't be a problem. I started to do what I have
done in the past....which is basically what you described. What has thrown
me off is the massive growth from these vines. The secondaries are
everywhere! I get to be too sentimental on the "salad" part of things. I
will hack away in the morn.
P.S. Best fruit going is a 1355 Bhaskaran 09.

Steve,
I'm a firm believer in no stress on the stem...I basically knock off all
secondaries 3-4 ft in front and behind the pumpkin...more from behind as
they
are not as critical. I also put milk jugs on the sides of the MV around
where the stem connects...so that there is a slack so the stem has no stress
and can grow parallel to the ground....which I think is important. I try to
insure a "V" also....you are correct...be VERY careful and do on a hot sunny
day! However, once set up...not much more needs to be done for the rest of
the season...which I like. I then put them into "tarp" tents and also cover
them additionally with a sheet...to insure both dry and no sun on them.
Good luck.

I am having issues with my vines pinning my stem down toward the ground. I
ave gone along the vine from the fruit in each direction, cutting the node
oots in order to free the vine. Should I free the downstream end and keep
t loose? I am so afraid of pressuring my stem or breaking my main.
Any advise out there would be great.
