I was worried when my first female came out and I had no male, however
these last 3 or 4 days I have had a new female every day to pollinate and
the males to pollinate with. I have noticed as I am getting more vine
growth that the vines are getting that taproot. I have read in various
places that if you mound dirt over these that it will develop 2 taproots
thus allowing for a more efficient uptake of nutrients and moisture.
Question #1: How close to my pumpkin should I mound as I have noticed
that some of the taproots are close to the fruit?
Question #2 - The first female flower that I had did not get pollinated
as I had no male at the time, but there is a pumpkin developing. Is the
pumpkin going to abort this or do I have a freak of nature?
Question #3 - In my inexperience I planted giant pumpkins and squash in a
small area of 25 feet x 50 feet. I have vines all over the place, but
thought I would let them go. Will this take away from the final weight?
(I am giving them plenty of fertilizer and water)
That is all for now.
