Greg & Pumpkins,
I am having a worse problem yet with my 1006. I set 9 pumpkins on the
plant, the fruit has very large stems 6" to 8" long and good diameter. When
my pumpkins get to the size of a cantaloupe the stems begin to crack on the
sides.
I have good position to the vine, the vine is supported the stems are
supported!
Some of the cracks are 1/4" wide and run the entire length of the stem from
pumpkin to vine, some are going into the pumkins others are stopping just
short. I have removed a number of pumpkins as they had as many as three of
these stems splits in them and cracked into the pumpkin. I am down to four
pumpkins!
If anyone has any advise on what is causing this, genetics, over watering
or this is just normal and don't worry about it, I too would sure
appreciate knowing!
Meanwhile I continue to put a paste of captan on the splits and just keep
culling them off when they get to bad!
Thanks
Chris Andersen
