Joe, I am having a hard time following your point other than you are really
into promoting this sport......I am not so sure you have to do anything to
promote it its like you say one big pumpkin can do a community
wonders....but its the big pumpkin that does more promotion than any
organization......people see them for the first time and flip....it really
is the growers that do all the promotion they give uncle george some
seed....and hes hooked ...he passes it on to his buddies they all pool $50
for there own private neighborhood contest.....on and on and the sport is
growing as fast as the vines do......As far as the plaques, ribbons and
purse those have always been up to the individual sites.to lure the big one
to there site..but the GPC....hands out their own plaques if you go to a
weigh -in that is also one of their sites.......Chris Andersen has
one!..Says its nice!.......If your having a race you all have to start at
the gun and have to have a common finish line..to be fair....if these
dates are lousy for your climate you have to do what ever it takes to make
it work to play with the GPC dates...and having a site near by is
nice......right now we don't have one in Ca....I know its frustrating
living in an area that is not conducive to growing these
Giants......Ca...growers were at the point where we felt we never had a
chance because of the extreme heat .that it could'nt be done..then Andersen
went the extra mile and waalaa..........so your right Joe the GPC might not
fit your needs .......but whats the point on harping on the fact they don't
feel promotion is necessary....maybe its not . to them....the members I
have met seem like a fine group of people!! It just seems like the same
thing over and over the head of the SPGA trashing the GPC.....and I just
don't see the point......brock
