Excerpt from my Mar 1997 article on "The Growth Rates of World Class Pumpkins"
Average Weight gain/Day (lbs/day)Required to grow world Class Pumpkins

75-80 1 1.4
A 10 lb pumpkin will have over the top masures of 70"
What this table tells us is that we basically have 60-65 days to pack on the weight and what Al Eaton is saying if up here in the Ottawa area if we are not at 80" circumference (142 lbs) by Aug 1 then for us to get 60 good growing days its not gonna happen. Since we have frost in early Sept many yrs.
The data was reduced from Dejong,Emmons,Brown,Lyons,LaRue,McIntyre and Eaton World Class Pumpkins. And represents Washington, Minnisota, and Ontario Data. But I believe that the AG's growing curve will be mostly the same everywhere. So get on with blowing those pumpkins up.
Good luck.
