I use cloth measuring tapes (sewing tape) to measure the pumpkins. One is
five feet in length and the other is ten feet.
A 6x8 foot blue tarp was used to cover this pumpkin and they usually can
be purchased at a hardware store, lumber store, etc. I usually use a 4x6
foot tarp, but I am optimistic this year. I tie the tarp with twine to six
foot steel posts. For the 4x6 tarp, I use four posts; 6x8 tarp, six posts.
I use twine instead of wire because a strong wind can cause more damage
with wires than with twine. A tarp blowing with wires can damage a pumpkin
much more than a tarp with twine.
