Growers,
I need input from some of you growers that
might have been there and done that. This
morning on the way to work I stopped at
Mom's to check on the patch and I've been
wanting very much to throw up ever since.
Here's the scoop:
I've got 10 AG plants growing very well right
now and 3 of the largest have fruit on the vine.
Largest fruit Sunday measured 16 inches in
circumference. There is also about 6 more
fruit on the vine. I hand pollinated 2 of these
but Mother Nature has taken care of the rest
so far. Here in east central Alabama we have
gone from drought like conditions with high
temps in the upper 90's and low 100's for the
last few weeks to much, MUCH rain here since
last Thursday with no let up in sight, high temps
are now in the low 80's. ALL the fruit have started
to rot on the blossom end turning from their
pretty yellow color to light brown and very soft
and mushy. Reminds me of blossom end rot
on tomatoes. WHAT IS THIS?? Almost sounds
to me like a magnesium sulphate deficiency, but
I just don't know. All the plants are otherwise
very healthy, nice medium to dark green colored
leaves, BIG leaves, largest vine at about 20 feet,
no sign of disease or insects. PLEASE ADVISE ME !!!!!!!
Right now I feel like firing up the old weed eater
and giving my pumpkin plants a little trim! I have
literally broken my back preparing the patch,
germinating seeds, feeding and watering those
things, spent TOO MUCH money on bags of
soil and manure and this and that. Wow! I see now
that I am losing it! I need therapy Dr. Judy.
Seriously, any ideas on this one? Need advice
here folks. Thanks.
