Gordon,
When measuring your pumpkins circumference there is no need to lift pumpkin at all. Measure your circumference starting with the blossom end and wrapping it around to the stem end and back to the blossom end. This is measuring it at it's widest area, parallel to the ground. Be careful so you don't knick the tender pumpkin skin with your fingernails or jewelry. Last year I put a bad gash in one of my fruits with my watch. Now I take off all rings and watch before I go to the patch.
I thought I would share this info for the new growers. I learned the hard way too+ACE- I wish I had something worth measuring in my patch. All my girls in the patch, are still less than 2 weeks old.
Watch out Brett, I'm gonna find a way to catch up. Hope to come visit your patch this weekend and see that 37 Inches you are bragging about+ACEAIQAhACEAIQ- LOL
