Re: Sarnia

question:
1)so the hidden weight has to be landed on exactly? or
2) just the closest to it ? big difference !!!

If it is the 1st and the hidden weight is to the 1/4 of a pound, one
would have to be very very lucky to hit it exactly.
1) -here is an simple approximation at the odds. ( not knowing the rules
or how the hidden weight is choosen or what the range could be) if the
range was from 300 lbs to 1000 lbs and the increment was 1/4 lb then
there could be 2800 possible hidden weights. the odds of any one person
winning a truck would be 1 in 1400. the exact odds would be hard to
figure out. but they would be similar to the 1 in 1400 odds. ( with the
given range- if the range were bigger the odds would be worse -if the
range narrower or the 1/4 lb increments relaxed to 1 lb then the odds
would be better )

2) if the hidden weight i but if it is the closest to the hidden wieght
then the odds are a lot better and they are 2 ( two trucks) in how ever
many people are in the contest. if 500 people show up the any persons
odds of winning a truck would be 1 in 250. alot better than 1) odds.

Glad i had to take that probabiltiy and statictis class.
