Re: Re: Oregon News Flash

Steve-
If you grow a 1200 + pounder and no one officially weights it at a
weigh-off then --- NO !!! it won't count ! where you going to weigh it ?
on your
bathroom scale ? even if you get someone to weigh it for you - how do we
know that it isn't full of water or lead? or that it doesn't have a
split or hole in it?
that is why there are pumpkin organizations, official weigh- off sites
with entry fees and judges, etc.

FYI:
The first growers that ever grew one over 1000 lbs just happened to also
get a check for $50,000.00 for their efforts !
I believe that the prize money for the local Seattle area ( Carnation)
weight off is $3,000.00 , that might help to pay for some compost and
fert and
even a house payment.
If you want to win some prize money then your baby has to be ready by
weigh off date. yes we all grow for fun- but if someone was willing to
give you $3,000.00 because you happened to grow a real big one this
year, would you take it? even if you don't win - it is a goal to shoot
for - and beside the weigh-offs are a lot of fun.
are you a little more interested in "target dates" ?
maybe not ... but some people are.
