Pumpkins are
682.4, 247 OTT
733, 250 OTT
743.2 77 C.
Larger pumpkins slowing down, but still gaining 10-12 pounds a day. I
predict them both to break my personal record of 408 but still to be
somewhere in the 400s when finished growing. Had to amputate the far
side of the main vine on the 733 to relieve stem stress. Had a less then
90 degree angle to the vine. You were right pumkinguy you need that full
90 degrees and more! Had a deep stem crack in the other which I repaired
with cottonballs soaked in bonomyl (excuse the spelling). Took 5
cottonballs. Nice technique though. Castellucci told me of it. Works
better then captan. Less chalky and the cotton fills a large crack
faster with less paste. Expensive though. Recent pumpkin on the 743.2 is
gaining nicely but there is not much plant above ground to fuel this
one. It was considered a backup and much was cut away for the 733 to
grow. Kept it as a borer decoy and the bees popped a nice one for me.
Cut many borers out of it. The hyprdermic needle works good (25 cents,
muscle needle, drugstore). Haven't fertilized all year because of excess
readings to begin with. Anybody suggest I hit it with anything to perk
up the growth or just let it go slow and hope the growth stays around
longer then I expect?
