Re: burying main

Last year I cut and buried the end of a secondary main vine. Not too long
after the vine was buried, a female blossom opened about 12-18 inches from
the buried end. For fun, I pollinated it. Before long, it started growing
and by the time I realized that this pumpkin really wanted to grow, I
could not unbury the vine as the pumpkin was sitting on top of it. The
pumpkin grew to 452 pounds and the stem was somewhat stressed as it was
stretched from the ground to the pumpkin. All I can say about this is
that a pumpkin will grow even if it is grown at the end of the vine. I
assume that since the vine was buried under the pumpkin, it was able to
provide the pumpkin with plenty of nutrients.
