Dan- Last year I had a squirel living under my deck - fun to watch especially after it had 6 babies. the little ones were extra cautious at first. Then the fun and cuteness went away when all of them proceded to eat almost everything in my garden. they would take bites out of the young pumpkins and eat the flowers. we tried the "feed them something better" method which seemed to worked. they loved walnuts and cut up apples. but you have to give them a big supply or they go right back at the pumpkin plant. I would try trapping them ( dead or alive ) Beth- I also attract the birds during and after watering, mainly robins. they haven't done any damage to my plant/flowers/pumpkins at all.
