Small split in stem

To Anyone,
I have a small split in the stem (approx. 1/8 inch wide X 3/4 inch long)
running parallel with the stem (not across). I can't imagine what could have
caused it but I have bad luck so I wasn't surprised when I saw it. But anyhow,
its the only pumpkin I have set and being late in July without another female
blossom opening any time soon, I really would like to try and save this one if
possible. Any help would be appreciated.
