Sending this info from an old post that may help.(see below)
crack could be caused from fast pumpkin growth in the night . check to see
that you r vine dosn;t have to much tension on it, you may have to cut some
close vine roots to let you r pumpkin grow upwared.
If the crack is not to deep it may heal all on it s own. I used captan and
water paste on my wood cuck bites and it healed well.There is still hope .
