 HI Group,
I recall allot of talk last year about the different things to use under
 our pumpkins .
Beth just asked about moles coming up through styro.
I am going to start putting protection under my pumpkins this weekend before
they get to big to handle , and would appreciate some input.
I was thinking a good sized piece of chicken wire (to prevent vermin) then
a sheet of Styrofoam. last year I used styro under one pumpkin and sand
under another . Both worked well, but I got nervous about rodents.
 thanks

I know there are a lot of different thoughts on this subject but I don't
believe in putting things under pumpkins. Clean sand or topsoil covered with
granular Diazinion keeps the critters and insects away. Hot Pepper spray
would also help to keep critters away. Some beetle larvae and rodents like
to eat Styrofoam.
