If you put styrofoam between the stem and shoulders you just take away what
room it
does have to grow. This is where training the vine in a lazy "S" shape
comes into play.
You try to set the fruit on the outside of the curves so the vine is angled
somewhat away
from it. I had one last year that had a similar shape and eventually the
upper end of it
widened out. It was ugly, but it weighed heavy. It started out shaped like
a giant lump
roma tomato. Good Luck.
