My procedure is fairly simple. I bury everything except for the place on the
vine where the female is. After it starts to get about the 100"OTT mark, I will
with my finger, dig under the vine, and just give it a little tug where the tap
root is. By doing this, I get almost a month of use out of the nearest tap
roots to the female, and I then free up the vine to raise upward with the
growing pumpkin. I usually can get by with just doing 2 tap roots on each side
of the pumpkin.
