Things have been getting tense here on the list, what with pollinating the
big one, burying vines, and fighting early bugs. So I have a lighter, yet
still real question to distract us.
On my LaRue 750, which had a flat vine that spit into two rounds, are (is) a
double blossom. That is, two blossoms and their attached buds are together,
forming a figure eight bud rather than a 0 shaped bud. (This on the other end
of the plant from the flat vine.) There are two ovaries going down into one
bud-mass. So here is my question.
When this matures and I bring the 1,500 lb fruit to the contest at Elk Grove,
will I be able to declare it as one pumpkin, or will some testy master
gardener declare me an idiot to bother to rent the flatbed truck and drive
200 miles on a fool's errand? Would the Safeway people at Half Moon Bay pay
me to stay away rather than cause contention?
What do you think?
