No, it doesn't work that way....the roots can only use so much moisture, that
is an inch or two for every square foot. More than that will basically just
make it TOO moist (if not just mud), and that isn't good either. If you want
your pumpkin to be able to use more moisture, you will need to root the vines.
Also, I think the formula is more like a gallon for every 1.5 square feet
equals in inch.
Also you should always water deeply each time you water, so no less than a
half an inch in a watering, 2-3 times a week. or .75 inch twice a week, etc.
And always count rainfall as part of the amount.
