Spots that burn through and leave holes in the leaves certainly does NOT 
sound like a direct "genetic trait", but more like a genetic susceptibility 
to a specific problem!
It could be a fungal problem, or reaction to a physical situation, but in 
either case, you should be treating with a broad spectrum fungicide 
regularly, since even if fungus isn't the cause, the holes in the leaves are 
openings to potential future fungal problems.
