Glenn Peters,
I agree with your answer. Once the leaves expose the pumpkin it is time
to shade it. I have one that is getting about 3 hrs of sun each
day.........this one is growing like a bandit, hope it doesn't explode. I
am going to cover it this week. I generally use four stakes/four corners
and staple burlap to corners. Burlap helps it breath and allows for air
movement.
