cursed seed

In case anyone out there has an armstrong 301 from last year, DON'T PLANT
IT!! so far, out of all the people that i knew for sure were planting it
have met terrible fates.
1. gave seed to a friend of my moms, insects (undetermined) completely
destroyed the plants at the 5-7 leaf stage,
2. gave seeds to woman at work, an oppossum ate a pumpkin off the plant,
and apparantly the rest of the plant was destroyed as well
3. gave seeds to a coworker, who passed them on to his girlfriends father,
a groundhog got them just as they were starting to vine.
4. (this is my favorite by the way) gave seeds to a friend, his neighbor
backed over the plant, and pumpkin on the vine.........with a bulldozer.

Anyway, anybody out there ever experiment with putting something on
the skin of the developing fruit? something to keep it "soft and supple"?
