The root comes out the point and the leaves grow out the wide end.
Actually, the root pushes them, seed cover and all, out of the ground. If
you want to point the plants, try planting them in peat pots and when they
have grown to the seed leaf stage plant them at an angle pointing in the
direction you want them to grow.
